Linked in Regeneration lecture with Marc McKee | | | | Wednesday, 1. July 2015, 17:00 - 18:00 | | | |
|
We would like to cordially invite you to attend the BCRT Lecture Series 2015 “Linked in regeneration” wants to join young and senior scientists from Berlin to come together and discuss with internationally renowned guest speakers how to advance research into regenerative medicine and its translation into the clinics. The BCRT lecture series is organized and hosted by young postdocs of the graduate school of the BCRT.

Speaker: Marc McKee
(McGill University - Montreal)
Host: Guido Moll (BSRT Postdoc)
This lecture takes place at 17:00 as a double within the topic Dissecting Disease mechanisms using models of tissue regeneration and biomineralisation. The other lecture by Prof. Josef Penninger is at 16:00.

Research in Professor McKee’s laboratory is primarily focused on mineralization (calcification) of extracellular matrices in bones and teeth, and in other biomineralizing systems such as inner-ear otoconia and eggshells. In particular, they are investigating the role of mineral-binding proteins in normal mineralization and pathologic mineralization as seen in urolithiasis (kidney stones), arthritis and vascular calcification (including atherosclerosis). We study how biomineralization is regulated by investigating the control of the phosphate/pyrophosphate balance in extracellular matrices by alkaline phosphatase and other pyrophosphate-handling proteins, and by investigating how extracellular matrix proteins and enzymes control mineral crystal growth.
