Research Interests: The Institute of Medical Immunology want to be a bridge between basic research and clinical research. To realize this concept, both MD´s and PhD´s together with MD and PhD students form the scientific team and the institute offers to Clinical Departments guest working places (8-10). Interdisciplinary groups (Transplant Research Group and Molecular Pathology together with the Depts. of Nephrology and Dermatology, respectively) further improve the interactive work between the institute and clinical groups. In addition, we have closed collaborations with small Biotech enterprises (three of them - Probiogen AG, Jerini AG, GenPat77 AG - were sourced out from the institute - with >100 people) as well as big pharma (joined group with Schering AG).

* The scientific topics are transplant immunology
* immunology of viral infections (CMV, EBV)
* immunology of sepsis
* development of standardised immune monitoring
* immune dermatology
* protein-protein-interactions (independent C3 professorship)
* biological clock (junior professorship)
